Dallas Sykes is a shell of a man. Anyone who's read the Stark books already knows him a little; The King of Fuck. He puts up a façade pretending to be something less than what he is. Pretends to be soulless, a playboy, billionaire, heir to the business throne, arsehole. But in reality, he's denied. Denied the one thing he wants. The one person he needs. He's not the only on denied. Jane is too. "I feel denied. I feel cheated. Because what was perfect and right and saved us in the dark is forbidden in the light." They are both lost without the other as they fight to find the answers they need.
This book had me cut in two. One half of me wanted them to pull back from each other, be strong and put their relationship and everything else behind them. But it wasn't an equal half. Because the larger part of me wanted them to find each other again. Even if it mean Eli Sykes had to die... that's how far my mind and heart took this. I wanted their love to work. I needed the to be together, at the expense of all else; their reputations, their family, their own pain.
So my mind was racing as I read this book with the possibilities; not just sexually or romantically between the protagonists but as to the identities of their kidnappers. About half way through, I was convinced I knew who was behind it all and moments later I thought I might just know the identity of the women. I have to say this book really impressed me. It flowed beautifully and was really well written; the suspense literally killing me. I actually think this book was better written than the Stark books; and I loved those books.
I got five out of five stars.
